EOCR Changes Name; More Accurately Portrays Relationship with SSR

6/1/2006

Ellers, Oakley, Chester & Rike Becomes SSR Ellers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Effective today, Ellers, Oakley, Chester & Rike, Inc. (EOCR), a full-service consulting engineering firm and a subsidiary of Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR), has changed its name to SSR Ellers, Inc.

EOCR has operated as the Memphis office for Nashville, Tenn.-based SSR since January 1998, and the new identity more accurately reflects EOCR’s relationship with SSR.

“This formally recognizes our integration of services and the very strong and productive partnership we have developed with SSR since we became its subsidiary in 1998,” said Ralph Richardson, P.E., president of SSR Ellers.  “Ellers was the most common name used to reference the firm during its history.  Retaining Ellers in the new name preserves our history and local reputation, while incorporating SSR underscores that we have expertise and capabilities on a national scale.”

Through the years, EOCR has developed a strong presence in Memphis and across the mid-South by delivering a wide spectrum of consulting services related to facility and infrastructure design, operation and management.  With 69 employees, EOCR has worked on several notable Memphis-area projects, including the recently-opened Northwest Passage Exhibit at the Memphis Zoo, Walnut Grove Road improvements currently under construction and Beale Street Landing, which is currently in the design phase. For the last two years, an engineer from the firm has been recognized as Outstanding Engineer of the Year by the Memphis Chapter of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.

SSR Ellers now has a national presence to market and expand its expertise in corrections, controls and automation, structural, civil, transportation, environmental, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering and further showcase the work its employees are doing on major projects.

“The name change will help unify the firm and allow us to market our services more consistently and effectively on a national scale” said Richardson.  “While the EOCR name has changed, our clients will see no changes in management, operations, performance or location.”
