The Tennessee Chapter of the American Public Works Association (TCAPWA) has given SSR their 'Public Works Project of the Year' award for their work on the Alcoa Water Treatment Plant.
SSR's Civil and Environmental Team provided the overall project management, civil, environmental, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, instrumentation and structural design and construction administration on a 16 MGD water treatment plant for the City of Alcoa, Tenn.
The plant uses membrane filtration - the latest technology in water treatment - to remove contaminants from Little River water, making it Tennessee’s largest membrane filtration water treatment plant. The plant also uses hypochlorite generation, which means that the disinfectant can be generated on an as-needed basis by passing salt water through an electric charge. This technology eliminates hazards associated with storage and handling of either chlorine gas or industrial grade sodium hypochlorite.
The TCAPWA is an association of public works officials from governmental agencies across the state as well as companies and suppliers of consulting services, technologies, and equipment used in typical public works areas of responsibility. These areas include road and street maintenance, solid waste collection and disposal, municipal water and wastewater operations, storm water management, transportation, traffic control, fleet maintenance, building and grounds maintenance and other related areas.
