SSRCx Takes the ‘LEED’ In Green Building Design; Forms Sustainable Solutions Group

5/11/2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Smith Seckman Reid’s commissioning subsidiary, SSRCx, LLC, has formed the Sustainable Solutions Group and hired Jamie Qualk as director of LEED® facilitation sales and Eric Sheffer as LEED project assistant.

The newly formed team of LEED AP experts is responsible for aiding in the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings according to guidelines set by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The group’s express purpose is to help companies achieve a green building status for one of four levels of LEED certification.  LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

“As more building owners and facility managers realize the energy savings and environmental benefits of LEED certification, our new group of experts will better position us to assist them,” said Paul McCown, team leader for the Sustainable Solutions Group.

As director of LEED facilitation sales for the Sustainable Solutions Group, Qualk is responsible for the marketing and sales of LEED services.

Prior to joining SSRCx, Qualk served as senior sales engineer for Johnson Controls Inc. in Nashville.

Qualk is a former board member and current spokesman for the Middle Tennessee chapter of the USGBC and member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University.

As LEED project assistant for the group, Sheffer will assist with LEED facilitation, project development and data collection and processing.

Prior to joining SSRCx, Sheffer was project manager for Deep Run Building Company in Doylestown, Pa.
Sheffer is a member of the Middle Tennessee chapter of the USGBC, the Timber Framers Guild of North America, the Orion Society and the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture.  He received his master’s degree in ecology and bachelor’s degree in biology from Penn State University in University Park, Pa.

Qualk and Sheffer join Paul McCown and Jacob Halcomb in completing the newly established group.
