J. Robin Barrick, PE, President and CEO

Rob Barrick has served as president and chief executive officer of Smith Seckman Reid since 1986. He has been with Smith Seckman Reid since 1974, serving as vice president of the Houston branch office before being named CEO.

His specialties include mechanical design for industrial, institutional and commercial buildings, solar heating systems design, energy management studies and mechanical system evaluations. Barrick is a registered professional engineer in 16 states and is affiliated with the American Council of Engineering Companies, National Society of Professional Engineers, Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers and Association of Energy Engineers. The Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers Nashville Chapter named him engineer of the year in 2003. He is recognized as a Certified Energy Manager by the Association of Energy Engineers and a LEED™ Accredited Professional by the United States Green Building Council. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and master’s of business administration from Vanderbilt University.



R. Clay Seckman, PE, Executive Vice President

Clay Seckman is executive vice president and leads the health care and higher education engineering and facility consulting practice in the Nashville, Sarasota and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., offices.

Seckman joined the firm in 1979 and served as principal and manager of the Houston office from 1984 to 1996, prior to his current role. His technical background is mechanical engineering for hospital and healthcare related facilities, including system design, master plan studies, facility evaluations and overall project management. In addition to oversight of engineering system design services, Seckman also leads the communications design group and the facility consulting group, which provides services in the area of regulatory compliance, operations and overall facility management. He is a registered professional engineer in seven states. Seckman earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University.



Stephen C. Lane, PE, DEE, Executive Vice President


Steve Lane is executive vice president and director of civil, environmental, sports and entertainment and industrial engineering services for Smith Seckman Reid.

Lane specializes in water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, National Pollutant Discharge Eliminating System (NPDES) permitting, industrial pre-treatment and long-range planning studies. Lane is a registered professional engineer in 16 states and is affiliated with the American Council of Engineering Companies, American Water Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Public Works Association, Tennessee Water and Wastewater Association and as a Diplomat in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Lane serves on the board of directors for ACEC of Tennessee and the Middle Tennessee Ronald McDonald Home. He is a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute of ACEC. He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s in environmental and water resources engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1991.
  



Timothy L. Priddy, CPA, Chief Financial Officer

 

Tim Priddy is the chief financial officer for Smith Seckman Reid. His responsibilities include the oversight and direction of all the corporate finance, accounting, treasury and information technology functions of the organization. Priddy began his accounting career in 1984 and over the years has compiled a wealth of experience in various areas of accounting, auditing, treasury and financial management.

Prior to joining SSR, Priddy was vice president of financial operations with PhyCor, Inc. from 1994-2000, and treasurer of ImageAmerica, Inc. from 1990-1994. He began his career with Touche Ross & Co. CPA’s. Priddy serves as the vice president of finance for the Middle Tennessee Ronald McDonald House and serves on the MTSU Accounting Advisory Board. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Middle Tennessee State University.



 

Betsy L. Crow, SPHR, Director of Human Resources

As Director of Human Resources for Smith Seckman Reid, Crow provides human resources (HR) leadership and strategic direction for all of SSR’s offices. Crow has worked in the HR and organization development field for 10 years with a strong background in training and leadership development. She worked in the healthcare and finance industries prior to joining SSR.

Crow has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Texas A&M University, a master’s in industrial/organizational psychology from Middle Tennessee State University, and her juris doctorate from the Nashville School of Law.



Kenneth G. Diehl, Jr., PE, Senior Vice President

Kenneth Diehl Jr., PE, serves as senior vice president of Smith Seckman Reid’s civil and environmental design group.

Diehl, who joined the firm in 1982, oversees the company’s infrastructure services, project management, design standards and specifications as well as managing delivery of all infrastructure projects and construction administration. His expertise includes project management and design of water, wastewater and drainage improvement projects. Diehl is a registered engineer in Tennessee and is affiliated with the American Council of Engineering Companies, Society of Marketing of Professional Services, Society of American Military Engineers, American Public Works Association and Water Environment Federation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental and water resources engineering from Vanderbilt University.



Terry L. Compton, PE, Vice President

Terry Compton, PE, currently serves as principal in charge and team leader in Smith Seckman Reid’s H3 Division, specializing in health care, hospitality and higher education.

Compton joined the firm in 1984 and has managed health care, institutional and commercial projects across the Unites States for both public and private clients. His areas of specialization include the design of water and wastewater systems and construction management of water and wastewater system projects. Compton is a registered professional engineer in three states and is affiliated with the National Fire Protection Association and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University.



Scott W. Johnson, PE, Vice President

Scott Johnson, PE, is an electrical engineer with 15 years of experience in the design and construction industry, providing design and consulting services in electrical and communications systems. He is currently Team Leader for Medical Communications design services in SSR’s Nashville office. Scott has provided consulting services for hospitals nationwide, with recent ED design experience at The Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University.



Jonathan A. Ross, Jr., PE, Vice President

Jon Ross, Jr., PE, serves as a divisional vice president and team leader for SSR. Ross joined the firm in 1981 and is currently a team leader in the H3 Division, specializing in health care, hospitality and higher education. A registered engineer, his project experience spans institutional, industrial and commercial buildings, including hospitals and college/university projects. Ross is a registered professional engineer in eight states and is affiliated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University.



Michael S. Rogers, PE, Vice President

Michael Rogers, PE, is a Team Leader in our Nashville office. Rogers joined the firm in 2000 and was responsible for mechanical systems design and project management. He has more than 17 years of experience in engineering and is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Mississippi. Before joining SSR, he was a mechanical engineer for Gresham Smith & Partners. He served in the United States Air Force until 1992.
Rogers is a member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee.



Mike W. Coyne, PE, Vice President

Instrumental in the development and start-up of SSRCx, LLC, Coyne is a vice president in SSR's south central division and managing principal of SSRCx.

Before joining SSR, Coyne founded C&C Mechanical, a design-build mechanical contracting firm specializing in renovation and service work with headquarters in Nashville and a branch office in Knoxville, Tenn. Coyne served as president and owner of the company for 18 years until he sold it to ServiceMaster in September 2000.

Coyne received his bachelor’s degree in engineering science from Vanderbilt University. He is a licensed mechanical engineer in several states, a Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional and a member of the AABC Commissioning Group national board of directors.
