Obama issues IT proclamation

President Obama issued a proclamation declaring September 11 – 17 National Health IT Week: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/09/12/presidential-proclamation-national-health-information-technology-week

ANI submitted a pledge to Support ONC Consumer eHealth Program, which was developed by the ANI co-chairs and ex officio chair. 

“As nurses are the most-trusted health professionals and have a long history of patient advocacy, we expect to have a significant impact on patient participation in Health IT and increase the use of Personal Health Records and Patient Portals from the 10% seen today to over 25% in the next 2 years.”

Healthcare Design and IT Planning – HIMSS Nursing Informatics

At the Nursing Informatics Task Force, held on Monday, July 25, 2011, Pamela Redden, RN, BSN, MS, Jennie Evans, RN, BS, LEED AP and Debbie Gregory, RN, BSN presented Healthcare Design and IT planning.

The discussion included:

- Nurse leader roles in improving intentional alignment between architecture and technology to support processes and work flow

- Specific design features that have demonstrated outcomes in improving organizational performance, patient outcomes and provider experiences

- Emerging technologies such as smart phones, the iPad, mobile medical devices, robots, etc. and how they are impacting the delivery of care
