SSR HIRES FOUR TEAM MEMBERS TO HEAD EFFORTS IN KANSAS CITY OFFICE

SSR, an engineering design and facility consulting firm, has hired four team members to head up efforts in its new Kansas City office. Darren Harvey, vice president and principal-in-charge relocated from SSR’s Houston office to lead the new team. The new hires include:

       • Todd Moore – senior project manager and senior electrical engineer;
       • Jeffery Miller – project manager and mechanical engineer; 
       • Adam Zorn – project manager and electrical engineer; and
       • Ronald Swopes – electrical designer.

Harvey will oversee the management of the multiple-disciplined design team and its projects, as well as client relations and development.  Previously Harvey held the position of vice president in the firm’s Houston office. A member of the American Society of Consulting Engineers and the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI), Harvey earned his bachelor’s in architectural engineering from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. and is a LEED® Accredited Professional. 

Moore’s expertise is in the design of lighting systems, emergency power systems and power distribution.  Prior to this role, Moore worked at M.A. Mortenson as the lead electrical engineer. A member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), Moore earned his bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Kansas State University.

Miller will lead the design of building mechanical systems and the specialization of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, and steam systems.  Miller previously worked as a mechanical engineer at George Butler Associates, Transit and Fleet Works Group.  A member of the National Council of Examiners of Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), Miller earned his bachelor’s in architectural engineering from Kansas State University. He also holds certification as a LEED® Accredited Professional. 

Zorn will design lighting systems, emergency power systems, and power distribution.  Most recently, Zorn worked at M-E Engineers as an associate office manager. He earned his bachelor’s in architectural engineering from Kansas State University.

Swopes’ designs lighting and power distribution, as well as telecommunication and security for healthcare facilities.  Swopes formerly worked as an electrical designer at Larson Binkley, Inc.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer information systems at Friends University in Wichita, Kan.

Projects and Talent Pool Attract National Engineering Firm

SSR, a leading engineering design and facility consulting firm with offices throughout the United States, recently opened its 13th office in Kansas City. 

 “Kansas City serves as an excellent talent pool for engineering professionals because of the number of universities that feed into the market,” said Rob Barrick, CEO of Smith Seckman Reid. “As SSR’s project work continues to expand in the region, we are now well-positioned to better serve our clients as we continue to grow.”

The new office is located at 2300 Main Street, Suite 900, Kansas City, Mo., 64108.  In early 2008, SSR opened its 12th office in Orlando.

SSR is providing engineering design services in the Kansas City area for Children’s Mercy Hospital and has recently completed project work for the University of Kansas Hoglund Brain Imaging Center and University of Kansas Medical Center-Center for Advanced Heart Care. SSR’s commissioning division, SSRCx, has also provided services for St. Luke’s Hospital and the University of Kansas Heart Center. In addition, SSR’s sports design team continues to partner with local architects HOK SVE and 360 Architecture for projects in the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States.

The new Kansas City office will provide a wide array of engineering design and facility consulting services including: MEP engineering design, communication and technology system planning and design, regulatory compliance support, commissioning, LEED facilitation and sustainable design. SSR has offices in Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville, Tenn.; Ft. Lauderdale, Sarasota, Tampa and Orlando, Fla.; Houston and Dallas, Texas; Denver, Colo.; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Hernando, Miss. The new Kansas City office is in line with growth goals laid out in the firm’s 10-year strategic plan for growing and diversifying SSR.
