SSR Announces New Board Member, Marty G. Dickens
Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR), a leader among engineering firms in designing, consulting, and commissioning projects, is pleased to announce the appointment of Marty G. Dickens to the SSR Board of Directors.
“While our firm is employee-owned, we have had independent outside board members for thirty years, said Rob Barrick, CEO and Chairman of the Board. “I have known and respected Marty for many years, both for his business acumen and his community leadership. We are honored to have him join our board and look forward to having his counsel as we go forward.”
Dickens, former AT&T Tennessee President, spent the majority of his career working for AT&T and BellSouth. He held a number of positions at both companies, working in the public affairs and regulatory departments, serving as comptroller, and overseeing the management and growth of foreign operations at BellSouth. He retired in 2007.
In addition to his role as the newest SSR Board member, Dickens currently serves as a founding board member and lead director of Avenue Bank, board member of Genesco, vice chair of the board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee, and chairman of the board of Harpeth Companies. Over the years, he has served a number of civic organizations in Nashville, including the chairman of the Convention Center Authority, and past chairman of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau. Dickens has also served on a number of community boards including for Belmont University, Vanderbilt University, YMCA of Middle Tennessee, Boy Scouts of Middle Tennessee, The Nashville Symphony, and the Adventure Science Center.
SSR’s Board of Directors is comprised of three internal and five external individuals from the AEC, medical, and business communities of Middle Tennessee. It is the Board’s responsibility to provide counsel and guidance in the direction and operation of SSR.
