VTB Arena Park – Dynamo Stadium & Arena
The VTB Arena is the new stadium of FC Dynamo. The facility is a multifunctional sports and entertainment complex. It has a capacity of 33,000 seats, which can be expanded to 45,000 seats. Built on the site of the old Dynamo Stadium that was closed in 2008, it was important to preserve the historical integrity of the facility. Part of the facade monument was preserved in the new stadium design.
The multi-use facility incorporates under one roof a football stadium, indoor arena that can be converted into an ice rink, shopping mall, and sub-level parking garage. The seats of the stadium are divided into three tiers to include a total of 6,750 seats and 98 VIP boxes. Stand-out features for this iconic European stadium include the 278-foot LED screen and unique multi-use arena that can be converted for basketball, hockey, ice skating, or concerts.
With design teams on multiple continents, the project team worked in close coordination with the U.S. based architect and Moscow based design team. By conducting an electrical redundancy study that uncovered unreliable power sources, the team was able to propose geothermal system to facilitate the stadium, arena, and shopping mall. Backup generators were included in the design to create an uninterruptable power source for the facility. Due to the cold climate in Moscow, developing a proper melt system was vital to the project. As a result, radiant heaters were installed to melt snow from patron seats and gas fired heaters run the length of the bowl ceiling to provide comfort.
To preserve the heritage of sports traditions and foster sports enthusiast, the project also include Dynamo Sports Academy. The Academy is a high-end sports and training complex that caters to a variety of sports for professionals and amateurs. The sports school and fitness center facilitate aquatics, ice hockey, basketball, tennis, and gymnastics.
