Architectural Design and Alignment with IECC 2024 Updates

Description:

This presentation provides a review of new MEP and Building Envelope requirements in the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Participants will explore the evolution of energy codes, the strategic use of Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) to mitigate early-stage risk, and the increasingly stringent performance paths required for modern projects. The session specifically addresses technical advancements in renewable PV integration, thermal bridging (psi factors) in energy modeling, and the mandatory processes for Whole Building Air Tightness Testing (WBAT).

Learning Objectives:

Summarize the evolution of the IECC, including key updates, milestones, and the timeline leading to the 2024 code cycle.

Identify and explain the new IECC 2024 MEP and energy modeling requirements, including when modeling is required and how it impacts design and compliance.

Analyze the IECC 2024 building envelope requirements, with specific attention to air leakage provisions and Whole Building Air Tightness Testing.

Apply risk‑mitigation strategies by using energy modeling and verification testing to reduce compliance risk and improve project outcomes.
