Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR) is proud to announce the appointment of Darren Harvey, PE, as the firm’s new National Healthcare Leader, a strategic role created to strengthen and unify SSR’s presence in one of our most significant and foundational markets.
Healthcare has long been at the core of SSR’s work. As the market continues to evolve, driven by technological advancement, shifting patient needs, and new operational pressures, nearly every SSR service line now touches healthcare in some capacity. The creation of this role reflects the firm’s commitment to deepening our legacy while positioning for future growth.
“As healthcare systems face increasing complexity, it is more important than ever that we understand the evolving needs of our clients and the industry they serve,” said Susan Osterberg, CEO of SSR. “This role strengthens our ability to listen, engage, and respond strategically in the marketplace while creating stronger alignment across SSR’s disciplines and services. Darren is uniquely qualified to lead this effort. He understands healthcare from multiple perspectives and sees opportunities not through the lens of a single service line, but through the collective expertise of our entire firm. His leadership will help ensure we bring the best of SSR to our clients, supporting environments that improve operational performance, and advance patient care.”
In his new role, Harvey will be responsible for positioning SSR as the preeminent consulting partner in the healthcare market. He will focus on maintaining a strong and visible market presence, expanding relationships with strategic accounts, and driving innovation across client engagements. Harvey will also play a key leadership role in shaping strategy for major pursuits, identifying geographic and client‑based growth opportunities, and representing SSR across the industry.
Harvey brings a deep and uniquely comprehensive understanding of the healthcare market. He’s spent his entire career with SSR, serving in our Houston, Kansas City, and, most recently, Dallas office. Harvey has built a reputation as a trusted leader across operational, technical, and client-facing roles. As a mechanical engineer with extensive project delivery experience, he understands the challenges of capital planning, funding prioritization, and healthcare operations, giving him a uniquely well-rounded perspective.
His experience spans the full range of healthcare delivery, giving him rare insight into the perspectives of owners, architects, operators, and partners. He also serves on the Medical Construction & Design editorial board, further demonstrating his engagement with and influence on the broader healthcare industry.
This multidimensional view of the industry positions Harvey to excel as National Healthcare Leader, where understanding market pressures from every angle is essential. His leadership has been evident in recent years as he spearheaded SSR’s involvement in one of the firm’s most significant projects: the New Pediatric Campus project with UT Southwestern and Children’s Health in Dallas. His ability to anticipate client needs, coordinate complex stakeholder groups, and guide teams through evolving project demands has made him a standout contributor to SSR’s long-term healthcare strategy.
“I’m honored to step into the role of National Healthcare Leader at SSR,” stated Harvey. “I’m excited to partner across the country and collaborate with our discipline-based business units to unify and elevate how SSR serves our clients—delivering innovative, trusted solutions for their design and construction projects and supporting their ongoing operational needs.”
