After completing my work as a construction officer in the United States Navy, I was drawn to improving the construction process. Therefore I migrated to the commissioning field to facilitate enhanced outcomes for building performance.

Principal

After earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1974, Rusty served his country in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps.  He joined SSR in 1980 to help manage construction administration for the firm’s projects across the United States. Rusty started SSR’s commissioning program (SSRCx) in 1998. Today, he is Director of Commissioning Services and is responsible for managing the performance of building commissioning services for the firm.

Rusty is an industry leader in the building commissioning field. He is charter member of the ACG (AABC Commissioning Group) and currently serves as President on its Board of Directors. He has co-authored two books for the American Society of Hospital Engineers (ASHE) entitled Health Facility Commissioning Guidelines and Health Facility Commissioning Handbook. Rusty also co-authored McGraw Hill’s Construction Management of Healthcare Projects which is being used as a reference by ASHE for their certification program. He is a frequent speaker at healthcare engineering, commissioning, and sustainability related trade shows and conferences. He has written several industry related articles as well.

Rusty is a registered engineer in 14 states and is also a LEED Accredited Professional BD+C. He possesses a commissioning certification (CxA) through the AABC Commissioning Group (ACG).

Rusty is a dedicated family man that loves to spend time with his wife, four grown children, and his grandchildren. In his spare time, he likes to travel and play golf.
