Chicago Teachers Union Foundation Headquarters

Chicago, Illinois

The Chicago Teachers Union Foundation’s (CTUF) new headquarters located near the heart of downtown Chicago, allowed consolidation of the membership services and operations into one new location, including secure, on-site parking for staff and visitors. The 100,000 SF building, completed in 2017, includes a new meeting hall which can accommodate 800 people for monthly meetings, and space where Quest Education could provide training and certifications. To achieve the needs of the CTUF, the existing brick building on W. Carroll Ave was gutted and reconstructed from the inside, requiring the design and construction team to consider existing space limitations and other obstructions.

As part of our commissioning efforts on this project, SSR was on-site to assist with identifying possible coordination and layout concerns and any impacts the design would have on the future maintainability of the mechanical systems within the building. SSR commissioning team members developed the commissioning plan, including specific construction checklists and functional test procedures to confirm the new equipment was installed and operating correctly and efficiently.

SSR provided complete direction of the functional testing processing, verifying 100% of the sequences of operation for all commissioned equipment. Equipment commissioned includes: central building automation system all equipment of the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems; domestic hot water systems, scheduled and occupancy sensor lighting controls; and daylight dimming controls.
