Medical City Plano Patient Tower
Medical City Plano is a new, 138,000 SF patient tower that houses 90 patient beds, and includes additional operating and recovery rooms as well as the first Sarah Cannon cancer hospital in Texas. SSR provided energy modeling services for code compliance and LEED certification, and LEED consulting services from early design through construction, including LEED facilitation efforts.
The project has maximized the number of prefabricated components in an effort to eliminate potential waste, reduce cost, and shorten the installation timeline and project schedule. In order to successfully implement this plan, the project team involved all team members and key trade subcontractors from the start of the design phase, including SSR’s sustainability team.
Close communication and collaboration has been essential to this project. Through collaboration with all team members concurrently, SSR was able to efficiently adapt to a fast-tracked project schedule throughout the design, including energy modeling iterations. The Medical City Plano- Sarah Cannon Cancer Hospital is the first LEED v4 for Healthcare Gold certified project in the United States. This was achieved by implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
