In the summer of 2017, Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Field House began the first round of renovations to the 25+ year-old facility. Taking place over two Cavaliers’ off-seasons, the major renovations and additions were aimed at increasing the facilities energy efficiency and providing a better fan experience.

Phase one work focused on infrastructure upgrades to ensure the building was compliant with current energy codes. This work included the construction of a new central utility plant, refurbishment of the outdated HVAC systems and equipment throughout the building, and new lighting controls. The facility was provided with new emergency chiller and electrical connections to add backup chiller capabilities to the existing and new IDF and MDF rooms in the event of power failure.

Phases two and three began construction at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 season and included updating the suites, club space, and south entrance (phase two), the addition of a new six-story north atrium and renovation of the buildings concourse, concessions, and bathrooms (phase three). SSR provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design, along with energy consulting for all three phases.

Additionally, SSR provided power distribution and controls to a new rooftop LED display installed on the arena prior to the 2016 Republican National Convention.
