Kevin Rettich Joins SSR as Director of Technical Leadership

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR), a leader among engineering firms in designing, consulting, and commissioning projects, is pleased to announce that Kevin Rettich, PE, LC, LEED AP, has joined the firm as the Director of Technical Leadership. He will be responsible for the overall people, structure, systems, and processes for technical effectiveness of the firms mechanical, electrical, plumbing, technology, and medical equipment planning services.

“Kevin joins SSR with extensive experience in working across a multiple office firm, getting colleagues to collaborate in developing technical standards and training, and raising the bar on technical excellence,” said Jon Ross, Senior Principal with SSR. “He has a passion for asking questions and getting people involved to help define best practices in our technical standards, he will be a great addition to our Technical Resource Group.”

“I’m excited about joining SSR with its history and traditions,” said Rettich. “I have always heard great things about SSR and now I get to take part in that and help take SSR to the next level of standards and quality. Already working with the technical leaders and talking to the staff, I can see a willingness and want to help. I’m looking forward to being part of SSR.”

Throughout his career, Rettich has established himself as a proven leader. In previous roles, he has been responsible for the development of standards and codes for other full-service engineering firms. He’s excited about the opportunity to build on the foundation that SSR’s technical leadership group (a collection of our most senior mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers) has created, and to take it to the next level. He is looking to tackle information management for our team of engineers and designers, develop tools to streamline processes and information, and continue to automate resources to all staff across numerous offices to work together. As Director of Technical Leadership, Rettich will provide technical leadership, direction, and training to enhance the development of SSR’s design professionals. Additionally, he will provide guidance to senior engineering staff, consult with individual engineers, and ensure that colleagues are technically trained.

Rettich earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 23 states, LEED AP, registered Lighting Designer, and certified Lighting Energy professional. Previously he was an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University, past president of the Michigan Section of the IESNA, and served on the IESNA RP-29 Health Care Lighting Guide re-write committee. Rettich has authored numerous technical articles and spoken at several industry conferences on lighting design, energy efficiency, and electrical power.
