SSR Announces Board Changes

|

Jeff Tolnar Joins, Marty Dickens Retires from Board

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR), a leader among engineering firms in designing, consulting, and commissioning projects, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeff Tolnar to the SSR Board of Directors as an independent director. His experience with Fortune 100 companies and multiple acquisitions will be an asset to SSR, in addition to the knowledge and experience he will bring to the firm. Tolnar will serve as the Enterprise Risk Committee chair and assist other committees.

“Selecting a board member is as much about their experience as the focus and vision they bring to the company,” stated Susan Osterberg, SSR’s CEO. “We are fortunate to have Jeff join our board with his well-rounded experience focused on growth, innovation, and valuing a strong culture and people-centered company. As a 100% employee-owned firm focused on people and performance, Jeff’s emphasis on a strong culture and strengthening the individual aligns nicely with that of our leadership team and overall firm. Jeff will be a great addition, helping to govern and guide SSR to build on our solid foundation.”

Based in Nashville, Tolnar has extensive leadership experience on boards and in c-suite executive positions. As a sought-after advisor, Tolnar is currently the President of Shoals Technologies Group, a leading electrical balance of systems (EBOS) provider for solar, energy storage, and eMobility. In his role, he is responsible for company growth, operational success, technology development, and product innovation. Prior to becoming President, Tolnar was Senior Vice President of the company’s eMobility business unit, focused on electric vehicle charging infrastructure and technologies. Tolnar is also Chair of the board of directors for Ionate Energy, a company focused on next generation transformer technology.

“I was drawn to SSR because of their high integrity approach within the market and the manner in which SSR manages the company,” stated Tolnar. “People are the engine that drives the business. SSR knows this and as an employee-owned firm, there is no better alignment between management and the employees. In addition, the opportunity to serve on a BOD for a Nashville based company that returns so much for the community was a tremendous opportunity for me.”

Tolnar is replacing Marty Dickens who has retired after eight years of service. He made many contributions during his tenure, most recently serving as chair of the compensation committee. He was recently awarded the Jack C. Massey Leadership Award by the Mental Health America of the MidSouth (2023).

“Marty provided great guidance and insights to help us understand the various business drivers and helped our firm achieve exceptional results,” stated Lane. “Marty always expressed a genuine concern and interest in all the people that work for our firm as well as their families. His positive attitude and his enduring family values set a wonderful example for all of us to follow. I will always be grateful for his support and friendship as well as his contributions to SSR and helping us be a successful, people-focused business.”

SSR’s Board of Directors is comprised of five internal directors and four independent directors. The independent directors are from the AEC, manufacturing, energy, and business communities. It is the board’s responsibility to provide counsel and guidance in the direction and operation of SSR. Board members include Steve Lane (Chair), Susan Osterberg, Tim Priddy, Mike Rogers, Jon Ross, David Gaboury (Lead Director), Pat Priest, and Joel Rood. Each board member is elected annually by the firm’s Trustee on behalf of the firm’s ESOP shareholders.
