SSR Offices Achieve WELL Health-Safety Rating

|

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR), a leader among engineering firms in designing, consulting, and commissioning projects, is pleased to announce that we have achieved the WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management on seven of our offices by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The prestigious distinction was awarded through IWBI’s WELL Building Standard (WELL), which is the premier building standard to focus on enhancing people’s health and well-being through the buildings where we live, work, and play. This certification applies to offices in Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Memphis, and Sarasota.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating for all new and existing building and space types focused on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans to address a post-COVID-19 environment now and into the future. The WELL Health-Safety Rating provides a centralized source and governing body to validate efforts made by owners and operators. It leverages insight drawn from the IWBI Task Force on COVID-19, in addition to guidance on the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), global disease control and prevention centers and emergency management agencies, as well as recognized standard-making associations such as ASTM International and ASHRAE, and leading academic and research institutions. This also includes core principles already established by IWBI’s WELL Building Standard, the premier framework for advancing health in buildings and spaces of all kinds.

“As a business rooted in striving for sustainability in our projects, it was important for SSR to endeavor into the WELL Health-Safety Rating,” said Eric Sheffer, Principal. “Creating a safer and healthier work environment is important as it shows a commitment to the health and wellness of our colleagues. Many of our clients are pursuing similar health ratings at their organizations as a measure of industry leadership in sustainability and wellness.”

Led by our resident WELL Accredited Professional, Hannah Walter, PE, LEED AP ID+C, WELL AP, SSR documented our year-long journey to certification. You can follow our experience, beginning here.
