Water for Life 2021

Hi! I’m Kate MacIndoe, PE, Civil Engineer – Water/Wastewater, and this year’s Kentucky/Tennessee Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Young Professionals (YP) Chair. Part of my responsibilities as KY/TN AWWA YP Chair are to help coordinate the Water for Life event that takes place Sunday afternoon of the Water Professionals Conference. I am co-chairing this event with Seth Dobyns of Guthrie Sales, the YP representative for Clean Water Professionals of Kentucky & Tennessee. Together, we oversee a committee of 35 individuals that are working to enhance the skills of young professionals through professional development and leadership opportunities.

This year’s Water for Life event is scheduled for Sunday, August 15th at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga. The event will be from 1:00 – 4:00 PM and strives to promote the significance of water to the local community. Both children and adults will glean new understandings of our water system by tasting, touching, and experiencing all things water.

Booths maned by local engineering firms, community organizations, and schools will be set up around Coolidge Park. Conference attendees and Chattanooga residences are encouraged to visit each booth and participate in educational activities geared towards school age kids and families. The free, family fun event is open to the public.

In addition to the Water for Life event, the YP Committee is planning a new, local YP Summit to take place this fall (September 30 – October 1). This two-day conference coincides with the Management Committee and will focus on topics related to leadership, resiliency, and career development.

My involvement with the YP Committee began in June of 2015 and I stepped into the YP Chair role in August of 2019.
